An 11-year-old boy was overjoyed this holiday season when he unwrapped the gift he had been waiting for. His mom and stepfather have been married for 10 years now, making them the parents he has grown up with for most of his life. For the last six years, her biological son has made it clear that he wants to be adopted by his non-biological father and share their last name.
This year, the couple decided it was finally time to take this next step. For Christmas this year, the couple presented this little boy with a certificate of adoption, showing his name changed to match that of his parents. While this boy was already in a home with a loving mother and father, formally being adopted renewed the joy he had in being a family.
