It is easy for many to forget that children who do not have homes to call their own want to have families and places to belong. This was evidenced just over a year ago when a 16-year-old boy in the foster care system spoke at a church and pleaded for someone to take care of him. The response to his request illustrates just how life-changing adoption in Georgia can be for a child who has the chance to become part of a family.
This teenage boy's mother had been in jail his whole life, and he has grown up in the foster system as a result. For as long as he can remember, he has been passed from home to home. The stand that he took in that church, as he chose not to give up on finding a family to call his own, would change his life forever.
Thousands of people responded to his request. After trying to fit into several different families, the boy's caseworker decided that she would adopt him. This child now has a family, including three siblings. He now hopes to return to school, start boxing and get a job.
This adoption has completely changed this teenager's outlook on life. Struggling to find a place that he could call home since he was born, he now has a forever family. Families in Georgia that are interested in adoption have numerous resources available to them that can provide information concerning the process. Additionally, those with experience in handling adoptions can help simplify an otherwise difficult process.
