No two divorces are ever the same. While the typical divorcing couple in Georgia may not relate to the same level of assets and spousal support that singer Mary J. Blige is currently dealing with, most will likely understand a similar stress that is often involved in the process. Though Blige originally filed for divorce from her husband back in July 2016, she is still trying to manage his demands.
After 13 years of marriage to her husband, Blige made the decision to divorce him due to his apparent infidelity and because she felt that she had been conned by him. It was alleged that he had been having an affair with a woman who had worked closely with Blige at the time. The singer ultimately felt that her husband had made a fool of her and wanted to take her money.
During the divorce proceedings, a judge initially ordered Blige to pay her ex $30,000 in spousal support monthly. However, the ex is now requesting that Blige pay him $65,000 a month. He claims that he is unable to find work or pay his rent, and that the stress of the divorce landed him in the hospital. They will once again face a judge in the coming months.
There is no doubt that going through a divorce can be stressful on everyone involved. It can be especially difficult to understand when it is necessary to request spousal support or -- as the more financially independent party -- how to handle such requests. It is always possible, however, to seek advice from a professional regarding these and other issues when considering a divorce in Georgia.
