Those who understand the hazards of operating a vehicle while drowsy may feel it best to pull over and rest once the effects of fatigue set in. While this might be one of the safest options, others may view this as somewhat suspicious in nature and notify authorities of the situation. A recent incident that began under similar circumstances reportedly prompted a chain of events that left two individuals in Georgia facing drug charges.

Sleeping driver

Reports indicate that the incident began in the early hours of a recent Tuesday morning after authorities received a complaint about two individuals who had fallen asleep inside a vehicle. Upon arriving at the location, authorities say they attempted to make contact with the vehicle’s occupants. They also claim to have spotted illegal substances within the vehicle and say that, after waking up and seeing them, the driver proceeded to flee the scene.

Authorities assert that the driver caused up to four separate collisions during the ensuing pursuit. They claim to have located the vehicle in a parking lot soon thereafter and placed both occupants of the vehicle under arrest. Reports indicate that both individuals are now facing various charges in relation to the incident, including possession of heroin.

What comes next

Individuals who face drug charges under similar scenarios might not always know how best to respond to the situation. Fortunately, there are attorneys who can evaluate the charges and evidence against a person and provide guidance in creating a strategy for what comes next. Seeking such guidance could prove vital to helping a person in Georgia understand his or her available options and prepare to make informed choices while preparing for subsequent court proceedings.
