Fatal crash leads to DUI charges for ambulance driver

On Behalf of | Nov 27, 2021 | Dui Defense |

Being involved in a fatal collision can be a harrowing experience, as the memory of the incident may remain with those involved throughout life. Those who stand accused of unlawful behavior in relation to such an incident could also face life-changing repercussions, and even if a conviction is not obtained, allegations alone may be enough to tarnish one’s reputation. An ambulance driver in Georgia may be in search of advice on his available options after a recent accident that claimed the life of a patient has left him facing DUI charges.

Reports of the crash

The incident reportedly took place on a recent Friday as an ambulance was transporting a patient. For reasons that remain unclear, the driver of the ambulance lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road. Authorities say that the vehicle proceeded to overturn in a nearby ditch and that the patient who was riding in the vehicle was killed in the process.

While it remains unclear as to why authorities came to suspect the presence of impairment, reports indicate that field sobriety tests were administered. No information was given concerning the results of these tests, but authorities say that the driver of the ambulance was taken into custody soon thereafter. He is reportedly facing numerous charges in relation to the incident, including driving while under the influence and vehicular homicide.

Facing DUI charges

Facing DUI charges can be a stressful and daunting process, and the penalties of a conviction for similar charges may increase in severity should a fatal accident occur. Those who experience a similar scenario and wish to seek insight on their legal rights and available options could find it helpful to retain the services of an attorney as soon as possible. An attorney can evaluate the charges and evidence against a client in Georgia, provide insight on the possible consequences he or she might face, and work toward forming a strong defense for use during subsequent legal proceedings.
