While a driver loses control of a vehicle and veers off the road, safely navigating back into the lanes of traffic can prove a challenging feat. When facing a similar situation, there is a risk that a driver might overcorrect and veer into the path of nearby vehicles, and the results of an ensuing collision could be devastating. A recent accident involving similar circumstances in Georgia has reportedly claimed the life of one person and left a 53-year-old man facing vehicular homicide and DUI charges.

Recent collision

According to reports, the accident took place at around 1:45 p.m. on a recent Sunday. Authorities have advised that it began when the driver of a southbound vehicle suddenly lost control and veered off the side of the road. Authorities indicate he crashed into the side of a second vehicle while attempting to maneuver back into the lanes of traffic, and they say the driver of this vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reports indicate that two other occupants in the second vehicle were both transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries. Although no further information was provided regarding the investigation into the crash, authorities have advised that the driver of the first vehicle is suspected of being impaired at the time. He is facing multiple charges following the crash, including vehicular homicide and driving under the influence.

Seeking guidance

Those who face DUI charges following a fatal collision and wish to seek guidance on what to expect from the process might benefit from retaining the services of an attorney as soon as possible. An attorney can evaluate every aspect of the incident, along with the charges and evidence a client is facing, and provide insight on the best course of action with which to proceed. By consulting with legal counsel, a client may obtain much-needed advice on what is at stake and in preparing a strong defense for use during court proceedings.
