It is no secret that being accused of operating a vehicle while under the influence can be stressful and scary. When teenagers face similar allegations, parents may have concerns about how the outcome of the situation might affect their child’s future and about the next steps to take to protect their interests. Parents of a 17-year-old teen in Georgia may be in search of such guidance after a recent incident involving an alleged police pursuit has left him facing DUI charges.

Reports of a recent incident

According to reports, the incident began after authorities claimed to have witnessed two drivers run through a red light at around 1 a.m. on a recent Wednesday. Authorities claim that they initiated a routine traffic stop and they say both drivers initially pulled over, but one driver allegedly decided to flee the scene. They assert that this prompted a pursuit reaching speeds of up to 120 mph and they claim that after they were able to stop the vehicle, the driver and passenger proceeded to flee on foot.

Authorities say they were able to locate the driver in the woods nearby with the aid of a K-9 unit. He was placed under arrest and is currently facing numerous charges in relation to the alleged incident, including drug possession, DUI, and felony fleeing. Facing allegations of such behavior can be daunting enough as is, and the penalties of a conviction for similar charges could have a significant impact on a teen’s life.
