When out traveling to and from destinations during the holidays, drivers may share the road with a multitude of others. Higher levels of traffic congestion can impact driver safety in various ways and those who encounter a negligent driver during such times may stand little chance of reacting quickly enough to avoid potential danger. A recent car accident in Georgia that began when a driver veered into the opposite lanes of traffic has reportedly claimed the lives of two individuals and left two others with serious injuries.
Thanksgiving Day crash
Reports indicate that the incident took place at around 11: 30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Authorities say that it occurred when the driver of an eastbound pickup truck suddenly veered into oncoming lanes of traffic. The truck proceeded to travel into the path of an oncoming vehicle and authorities say the two vehicles crashed head-on shortly thereafter.
Authorities have advised that both the driver and one of the passengers in the second vehicle suffered fatal harm and died at the scene of the accident. Two other passengers in this vehicle were both taken to a medical facility for treatment of injuries. While authorities have advised that the investigation into the crash remains underway, it remains unclear as to why the driver of the truck may have lost control and entered oncoming lanes of traffic.
After a collision
Even the safest of drivers may struggle to react to the negligent actions of another driver and a car accident involving similar circumstances could pose a threat to the lives of everyone involved. Those who suffer serious injuries or an untimely loss during such an incident could consider speaking with a personal injury attorney for guidance in thoroughly evaluating the situation. An attorney can provide a client in Georgia with insight on all his or her available options and assist in creating a strategy with which to seek the restitution deserved via the appropriate outlets.
