Off-duty deputy charged with DUI

Facing charges related to DUI in Georgia can leave one feeling stressed and anxious. These are serious charges that can negatively impact every aspect of one’s life. Many people find that a DUI conviction causes them to lose their job. This is especially true if one works in certain industries. An off-duty deputy from Houston County was recently pulled over for possible DUI and he’s now facing serious charges related to the incident.

A suspected DUI call leads to an arrest

The situation began when someone called the Houston County Sheriff’s Office at around 5:30 a.m. because they suspected that the driver was impaired. They claimed that the driver had hit a curb near the Houston Lake Road and Russell Parkway intersection. The driver in question, a deputy in that same county, was in his personal vehicle and was off duty at the time of the incident.

When the described vehicle was located, the police determined that enough evidence was present to arrest the man for DUI. He was employed on a probationary period and was terminated after the incident. If convicted, he could face fines or jail time.

Everyone accused of a crime has the right to defend themselves

When one is charged with DUI, seeking legal help from an experienced attorney is important. Defense strategies are dependent on the individual circumstances of each case. Those facing charges can benefit from working closely with their attorney to decide which strategy fits best based on the case specifics. Georgia DUI laws are strict, and a conviction could be serious, so it’s important for individuals to understand the possible repercussions and follow legal advice from those who understand the state’s laws.
