On Behalf of Harrison & Medlin, P.C. | Apr 9, 2024 | Car Wrecks

While most drivers might be aware of how dangerous it can be to travel at excessive speeds, such negligence continues to play a role in many collisions. The presence of speeding may not only lead to a greater risk of car accidents but such factors can also increase the severity of a crash. One person has been arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle in a recent crash that claimed the life of a 64-year-old man in Georgia.

Speed-related crash

Law enforcement agents say they responded to reports of the crash on a recent Thursday. According to reports, the incident began when the driver of a motor vehicle was attempting to navigate a left turn. Witnesses told authorities that an oncoming vehicle that was traveling at a high rate of speed crashed into the side of the first vehicle shortly thereafter.

An investigation into the crash indicated that the driver of the oncoming vehicle was traveling at speeds of over 100 mph at the time of the crash. The driver of the first vehicle was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and he passed away soon after arrival. Authorities have advised that the driver of the second vehicle has been arrested and is facing charges of homicide by motor vehicle.

Reckless behavior

Excessive speeding is a type of reckless driving behavior that plays a role in many serious or fatal car accidents. Families in Georgia who suffer the loss of a loved one due to such negligence may wish to exercise their rights to seek accountability in civil court, and they might need guidance in preparing to navigate this process. When facing similar hardships in life, a person could benefit from retaining the services of a personal injury attorney for assistance in preparing to seek the compensation deserved via a wrongful death claim.
