Turning to parents for advice on divorce, property division

When going through a Georgia divorce, it is important to have a strong support system in place to help ease the process. For many, this includes one or both parents. Navigating divorce can be a challenge, and having the support of a parent can be instrumental in preserving stability and reducing stress as the divorce process moves forward through negotiations on property division and child custody.

In many cases, it can be difficult to discuss one's marital problems with parents. This is especially true in cases in which a parent is firmly against divorce, or when the problems that led to the split are the result of one's poor choices. However, parents love their children unconditionally, and many children are surprised to find that their mom or dad is there for them, even when they may be in the wrong.

Having the perspective of a trusted parent can be an invaluable asset during a divorce. In some cases, parents have firsthand knowledge of the divorce process, and can offer guidance on how to avoid common mistakes and reach the best possible outcome. For others, simply having access to a parental sounding board can make a world of difference.

Just as every Georgia marriage is unique, each and every divorce process will be a product of the parties and issues at hand. For many, issues of property division cause a great deal of stress; for others it is child custody that offers the biggest challenge. It is not important or always appropriate to share every detail of one's marital problems with a parent. At the same time, failing to take advantage of the love and support that a parent can offer during a divorce is almost never the right course of action.
