Divorce process can be less stressful through mediation

The process of divorce can be both emotionally and financially draining. This is especially the case when two people cannot agree on how to split their shared assets. A couple of tips, however, may help to make the divorce process less stressful for some Georgia couples.

First, it is wise to consider divorce mediation. Mediation is ideal for couples who want to avoid the potential stress of litigation in court. A mediator can help the two divorcing individuals to resolve their conflicts and achieve a settlement that is pleasing to them both.

It may also be helpful to remain in contact with one's ex-spouse via email after the divorce has been finalized. Communicating with an ex is necessary, particularly if two people have kids together, but it can be difficult to talk to an ex on the phone when emotions remain raw following a divorce. Email makes it easier to keep communication open between the two individuals without necessarily having to talk on the phone. Being polite with an ex is also crucial to making a co-parenting relationship as successful as possible over the long term.

Divorce can be a complicated process in Georgia, but if two people are willing to cooperate and communicate effectively, it can increase their chances of having amicable divorce proceedings. If the two individuals are unable to find common ground, a family court judge will have to address their issues, and the outcome may not be the one for which either was hoping. Appropriate legal guidance may help individuals to pursue the settlement they desire while taking into consideration the other party's wishes.
