Making the decision to adopt can be the beginning of an exciting adventure. Deciding to go on that adventure through the Georgia foster care system can widen the adventure and may include siblings in the story. That is what happened in a recent adoption in Athens.

The goal of foster programs is to reunite children with their biological families whenever possible, but when it is not possible, adoption is the next best option. A 10-year-old girl had been living with a foster family for two years. It became evident that reunification with the girl’s birth mother was not going to be possible. In addition to the 10-year-old, the family also fostered the girl’s little brother and sister. The brother and sister had come into the home as babies, the girl at 5 months and the boy soon after his birth.

It became apparent in 2016 that the children would be available for adoption as reunification was not legally an option. The foster parents were asked if they’d be interested in adopting the children and the process began. Three young children now have a loving permanent home.
