It might be difficult to grasp how the decisions of other drivers nearby could affect one’s safety. While the average person might feel relatively safe while performing tasks in the front yard of a home, if this home rests near the lanes of traffic, it could take little more than a moment of inattention on the part of a driver for disaster to strike. A 68-year-old man was killed during a recent car accident after a driver veered off the road and hit him while he was mowing his yard.

Accident report

Law enforcement agents advised that the collision took place as the man was in his front yard on a riding lawn mower. An investigation into the incident indicated that the driver of a nearby motor vehicle was trying to reply to a text message when he veered off the road and into the yard. Reports indicate that the vehicle crashed into the man and his lawn mower, causing him to suffer fatal harm in the process.

Authorities say that they found the driver’s phone while investigating the incident and they say that it appears that he was texting at the time. They also claim to have noticed signs of impairment and say that the man failed to perform field sobriety tests to a satisfactory manner. He has been taken into custody and is reportedly facing numerous charges in relation to the incident.
